Overview
Non-Tenure Track Online Faculty Position The College of Emerging and Collaborative Studies (CECS) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) seeks a dynamic, collaborative, and innovative non-tenure track faculty member to create and provide instruction in a fully online program in Applied Cybersecurity (CYBR). The position is a non-tenure track, twelve-month appointment to begin as soon as possible, with a targeted start no later than January 2026. The selected candidate will be responsible for teaching and service consistent with the university mission. Teaching assignments within CECS will be made by the dean according to enrollment and scheduling demands. The primary teaching responsibilities include development and instruction of online asynchronous undergraduate applied CYBR courses. The position offers the option to be fully remote.
Responsibilities
Develop and instruct online asynchronous undergraduate Applied Cybersecurity courses (cybersecurity concepts, cryptography and data protection, cybersecurity tools, risk management, policy frameworks, network-controlled systems security, cybercrime and digital law enforcement).
Contribute to course development and delivery in line with CECS program needs; service to the College is not initially required during course development but may be assigned later by the dean.
Engage in teaching across CECS graduate and undergraduate degrees, certificates, and minors as opportunities arise.
Qualifications
Candidates must have a doctoral degree and demonstrated expertise in data science, applied artificial intelligence, and other applied computing fields; preference for degrees in mathematics, statistics, computer science, engineering, or related areas.
Ability to develop and deliver online undergraduate and executive courses in applied artificial intelligence, data science, analytic methods, data management, handling, and visualization, among other topics.
Higher education teaching experience is required.
Experience or ability in designing and delivering courses in various formats (face-to-face, synchronous online, asynchronous online, and hybrid) is preferred.
Experience with technology-enhanced teaching and team-based teaching practices is expected.
Strong commitment to excellence in teaching and service; significant professional experience is highly desirable.
Track And Rank Qualifications
Teaching Assistant Professor – Ph.D. (or anticipated at time of appointment) in a related field with demonstrated teaching excellence.
Teaching Associate Professor – Terminal degree with demonstrated teaching excellence and at least three years of full-time teaching experience in a related field.
Teaching Professor (Full) – Terminal degree with sustained excellence and evidence of instructional leadership.
Compensation and Workload The compensation will be commensurate with experience. The candidate will develop and deliver asynchronous online courses as part of the new degree program. Once launched, the candidate will teach a 4/4/2 load of online courses. Initial service to the College is not required unless the course load is reduced; service may include executive education courses, industry partnerships, student success programming, and public engagement support.
