Overview
The Hope College Biology Department invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor of molecular biology to join our vibrant community of teacher-scholars beginning July 2026. We seek an excellent scientist with a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and mentorship in a liberal arts context. Responsibilities
Research : Develop a vigorous, externally funded research program that addresses fundamental questions in Molecular Biology, including areas such as structural biology, single-cell analysis, genomics or other -omics; integration of data science or artificial intelligence approaches is encouraged. Engage undergraduate students as collaborators and contribute to the department’s academic environment. Seek generous start-up funds, laboratory space in the Schaap Science Center, access to shared facilities and instrumentation, and a one-course reduction during the academic year to support research efforts. Hope College also supports a robust summer research program for student-faculty collaboration. Teaching : Primary teaching responsibilities include Genetics and Molecular Biology, central to Biology and Biochemistry & Molecular Biology (BMB) majors. Contribute to introductory General Biology courses and develop advanced courses and labs in the candidate’s area of expertise. Collaboration and Service : Contribute to department programs and collaborate with interdisciplinary programs such as BMB, Neuroscience, and Data Science. Support strong interactions with the accredited BMB program; foster a collaborative and collegial environment and inspire students to engage with biology through evidence-based learning. Qualifications
Ph.D. in Molecular Biology or closely related field Postdoctoral experience is highly desired Evidence of promise as an innovative and effective classroom instructor Ability and willingness to teach Genetics, Molecular Biology, General Biology, and/or an advanced course in area(s) of expertise Potential to build an active research program involving undergraduate students Application Materials and Review Timeline
