Non-Exempt HOURLY SALARY: $23.00 - $25.00 Behavior Intervention Specialist Behavior Intervention Specialists (BIS) utilize behavior analysis methods to improve behaviors of recuperative care guests and others with developmental and behavioral challenges. They observe and respond to behaviors, providing guidance to help guests modify behaviors observable in their actions. The goal is to enable guests to better manage social interactions and situations. Responsibilities and Initiatives To support NHF's growth, the BIS will: Study guest behavior and apply ABA principles. Collaborate with the Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) and Director of Recuperative Care to develop behavior support plans. Respond appropriately to situations common among guests experiencing homelessness and with behavioral challenges. Use communication skills to provide effective feedback to guests. Communicate positive feedback effectively. Complete written individual behavior support plans (IBSP), collect data, and conduct assessments. Review and document progress through staff communication and charting. Work with the crisis mobile team to incorporate behavior plans into guest care. Coordinate with family, guest services, GSAs, and team members to ensure proper support. Train staff and guests in implementing behavior plans during and after the guest's stay. Recognize and respond to critical behavioral improvements. Use behavioral redirection techniques. Respond professionally to negative behaviors. Document each guest's progress. Consult with external psychiatrists and medical teams regarding medication regimens. Be available on call for crises at scheduled times and various sites, including in-home care post-transition. Perform additional duties as needed to meet facility needs. Follow NHF policies and procedures. Requirements Experience working with older adults or individuals with diverse abilities and maladaptive behaviors. Minimum of 6 months relevant experience, including internships, volunteer work, or related employment. Preferred bachelor’s degree in behavioral analysis (ABA). High School Diploma or GED required. Preferred Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certificate. Strong communication skills. Ability to work under high stress. Reliable habits, including punctuality and organization. Expertise in crisis intervention and working with mental health populations. Ability to work with a community mental health team and represent the agency. Familiarity with community support systems, healthcare, legal, and law enforcement resources. Good organizational and administrative skills. Flexibility in schedule, including weekends. Knowledge of professional ethics and mental health laws. Physical Requirements Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, squatting, reaching, twisting, kneeling, and pushing/pulling. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Effective verbal communication required. Noise levels may be high, and ability to hear alarms, pages, and verbal cues is necessary.
