The Bay Club
Overview
In 1926, a group of members belonging to a social club called “The Amity Club” (located on Eutaw Place in Baltimore City) purchased a site in the countryside for a new club. The Woodholme Country Club began on about two hundred acres behind a flourishing commercial district on Reisterstown Road in Baltimore County. The club opened with a temporary 9-hole golf course in 1927 and was dedicated on June 27, 1927, under the name Woodholme Country Club. The 18-hole course was completed in spring 1930. After the old Cook Mansion was razed in 1948, the present clubhouse was constructed, with a new pro shop completed in 1949. The Woodholme Golf Course was designed in 1927 by Herbert Strong, a pillar of the "Golden Age Of Golf Design," featuring natural terrain with minimal earth movement, small greens, deep greenside bunkers, and undulating fairways with significant elevation changes.
