Overview
Position: Per Diem Ship Crew Member Pool. Must be able to go to sea for extended periods; typical deployments average two to three (2 - 3) months. This is a pool for ongoing opportunities on Scripps Institution of Oceanography vessels. Embark on an adventure with Scripps Institution of Oceanography to support groundbreaking oceanographic research and travel to locations across the globe. Position Details

Pay and compensation are described in the posting: base pay range $25.00/hr - $75.98/hr; annual full pay range $108,910 - $158,646 (prorated if appointment percentage is less than 100%). Hourly equivalent: $52.16 - $75.98. Responsibilities / Duties
Be part of per diem crew on research vessels; positions include Officers, Seamen, Ordinary Seaman, Marine Cook, and related roles as listed in the posting. Support marine research operations while deployed at sea for extended periods (typical deployments 2–3 months). Adhere to vessel-based safety, security, and regulatory requirements (STCW, MMC endorsements, medical certificates, TWIC, background checks). Qualifications
Valid U.S. Passport. Valid U.S. Coast Guard documentation and endorsements for the specific position, including: Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) with required endorsements (VPDSD, STCW for watch standers, RFPNW/RFPEW, OICNW/OICEW for Officers). Medical Certificate (with valid STCW and National Expiration Dates). Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC). Pre-employment drug screen and background check clearance.
