The Parks and Recreation Department’s mission is to create community through people, parks and programs. Offerings include year-round recreational programs, classes, sports leagues, summer camps and events for Corte Madera and surrounding communities. Activities take place at the Corte Madera Community Center and Town Park, with additional locations as needed. Programs range from youth leagues to adult classes and community events. Position
Under supervision, the Recreation Aide - Child Care learns to supervise and engage children in grades K–5, promoting active play, learning, and creative activities in a safe and welcoming environment. This position is responsible for planning and implementing recreational, educational, and enrichment programs, maintaining attendance and program records, and communicating with parents and staff. This is an entry level classification with limited on-the-job time before capable of full performance; assignments are initially limited in scope and under direct supervision, with growing independence as experience accrues. Learns to supervise and engage children in grades K–5 during afterschool program hours, encouraging active play, reading, and creative activities. Supports planning and implementation of recreational, educational, and enrichment activities (e.g., arts, crafts, sports). Maintains a safe and welcoming environment by enforcing program rules and encouraging positive behavior. Checks children in and out of the program and maintains accurate attendance records. May communicate with parents, guardians, and coworkers about program activities and participant needs. Assists with preparing snacks and maintaining program spaces, equipment, and supplies. Provides basic first aid when necessary. Performs related duties as required. Knowledge of
Basic practices and methods of instruction, care, and supervision of school-aged children. Basic recreation principles and group activity planning. Standard office practices, recordkeeping, and computer applications (including recreation registration software). Basic maintenance and cleaning practices. Recordkeeping principles and procedures. Correct English usage and basic arithmetic. Town and mandated safety rules, regulations, and protocols including basic first aid and CPR methods. Skill & Ability to
Learns to supervise and positively engage school-age children. Creates and maintains a safe learning environment. Thinks and acts quickly and effectively in emergencies. Communicates clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing. Provides excellent customer service to participants, parents, staff, and community members. Works collaboratively with a diverse team and community. Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Exercises sound judgment, flexibility, creativity, and sensitivity to the needs of children. Responds calmly and appropriately in emergencies. Maintains facilities and equipment in a clean, safe, and secure manner. Maintains accurate logs and basic written records of work performed. Performs basic mathematical calculations. Required Conditions of Employment
The required conditions of employment include, but are not limited to the following: Must be 16 years of age or older Must be able to obtain CPR/AED and First Aid certification within 30 days of appointment Successfully complete a pre-employment background check to include fingerprinting and Child Abuse Index check Tuberculosis Clearance and satisfactory Health Screening Ability to work afternoons and evenings; Typical schedule is Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri 1:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. and Wed 1:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Any combination equivalent to experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. Customer service experience is desirable. Education
