Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Monitors and inspects facilities, equipment, machinery, and systems to determine need for repair.

Leads work crews in the repair and maintenance of water, wastewater, and reuse equipment, including water storage tanks, chemical feeders, tanks, pumps, motors, piping systems, valves, and treatment facilities.

Coordinates scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repair of water plant equipment, structures, and buildings.

Performs installation of materials, fixtures, equipment, and systems.

Checks equipment for proper operation.

Designs and fabricates equipment parts as necessary.

Monitors and oversees confined space entry by crews.

Maintains inventory of parts and supplies.

Trains subordinate employees as appropriate; acts as lead worker.

Mixes and loads chemicals; maintains plant security and O&M logs/records.

Performs janitorial, building, and grounds maintenance; uses tools such as hand tools, shovels, jackhammers, and power tools.

Assists with snow removal activities and snow standby duties; performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications & Working Conditions An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered to demonstrate required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Education:

High School Diploma or GED

Experience:

5 years of work experience in technical skilled labor preferred (as listed in Primary Duties & Responsibilities); 2 years in water or wastewater treatment operation and maintenance experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Associate degree in water technology or water quality management.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of chemistry, biology, math, hydrology; pumps, valves, motors, filters, backflow devices, piping, and pumping structures.

Knowledge of city computer systems; ability to operate and repair equipment operating on mechanical principles.

Safety practices for a water treatment plant; proficiency with personal computers and related software.

Strong interpersonal skills, problem solving, and effective communication (oral and written).

Licenses & Certifications

Colorado Water or Wastewater Treatment C Certification

Colorado Water Distribution or Wastewater Collection I

Colorado Driver's license with a good driving history

Working Conditions

Continuous work indoors and outdoors in various weather; exposure to noise, dust, and fumes.

Work around chemical feed areas with exposure to hazardous chemicals; requirement to wear PPE.

Occasional confined space work with exposure to raw sewage; potential exposure to low/medium electrical voltage.

Essential personnel may be required to respond during emergencies; participate in snow removal programs as needed.

Physical Demands

Medium work; ability to move up to 50 pounds; sustained walking and standing; bending, stooping, kneeling, pushing, pulling, climbing.

Good hand/eye and hand/foot coordination; ability to read gauges and reports; clear speech and hearing for communication.

Drug Testing, Background Check & References Employment requires a thorough criminal background check; drug screening for safety-sensitive positions. Finalists may have employment references checked.
