The Project Accountant is responsible for tracking, analyzing, and optimizing the company’s project expenses to improve profitability. The position involves analyzing event costs, managing project-based financials, reconciling accounts, and executing timely month‑end close to ensure accurate and compliant financial reporting.

Responsibilities
Collect, analyze, and report on labor, materials, overhead, and other costs associated with specific projects or products.
Apply cost and project accounting principles to accurately track, allocate, and report costs.
Compare budgeted job costs to actual job costs and identify variances.
Design, implement, and maintain systems for project accounting, ensuring compliance with company policies and GAAP standards.
Ensure compliance with ASC 606 revenue standards for project and contract‑based work.
Maintain accounting records for inventory and fixed assets in accordance with GAAP, including valuation, capitalization, and depreciation.
Understand WIP accounts, accruals, and deferring of costs.
Prepare and maintain budgets, cost estimates, and job cost reports for projects and operational processes.
Perform reconciliations of project costs, revenue, and related accounts as part of the month‑end close process.
Prepare monthly reports, including business unit income statements and variance analyses.
Support operational accounting by collaborating with project managers, business unit VPs, operations, and other departments to ensure accurate cost tracking and reporting.
Research and recommend process improvements to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
Assist with audits by providing cost reports, reconciliations, and documentation for inventory, production, and project‑related transactions.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.
Minimum of 3‑5 years of progressive accounting experience, with emphasis on cost or project accounting.
Proficiency in ASC 606 revenue recognition principles and application.
Demonstrated experience in reconciliation processes and operational accounting.Strong month‑end close experience, including journal entries, accruals, and reporting.
Sage Intacct experience preferred; proficiency with other ERP systems considered.
Advanced Excel skills and ability to analyze complex financial data, identify trends, and draw actionable conclusions.
Knowledge of GAAP and other applicable accounting standards.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to collaborate cross‑functionally and communicate financial information clearly to non‑financial stakeholders.
