Basic Purpose and Objective of the Position
This position will assist with technical operational accounting duties in the Reinsurance Department, which includes aspects of reinsurance general ledger entries, reinsurance payables & receivables, and account reconciliations. It is expected that this position will be able to complete assigned work on an accurate and timely basis. They may also be assigned accounting projects to assist with specific goals and objectives, as well as to identify, recommend, and implement improvements to department effectiveness and efficiency. This position must be able to provide quality, hands-on, detail attention to the specific accounting needs of the Reinsurance Department. They are expected to provide efficient reporting support using available tools including, but not limited to: RQD4, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft SQL, Cadency and SAP. Responsibilities
Prepare monthly ceded premium payments to third party reinsurers from system generated reports. Generate & deliver reports to 3rd party reinsurers, other departments, & upper management. Maintain 3rd party reinsurers’ letters of credit & trusts to ensure compliance with reinsurance treaties. Perform manual calculations of reinsurance premiums not on the reinsurance systems. Responsible for assigned reinsurance and coinsurance related account reconciliations. Maintain proper documentation in order to comply with SOX controls and corporate retention standards. Prepare journal entries for reinsurance and coinsurance related activity. Other accounting and financial job duties as assigned. Education/Qualifications
The candidate should have a working knowledge of GAAP accounting principles as well as the ability to apply that knowledge in the general ledger system. The position is expected to be at a level beyond reporting numbers and must be able to identify and understand fluctuations and/or errors. Excel skills for preparing reports and pivot tables. A minimum of two or more years of applicable accounting experience is required. Experience in reinsurance or the life insurance industry is preferred. A bachelor’s degree in accounting is required. Protective’s targeted salary range for this position is $59,500 to $75,000. Actual salaries may vary depending on factors, including but not limited to, job location, skills, and experience. The range listed is just one component of Protective’s total compensation package for employees. This position also offers additional incentive opportunities [through an annual incentive based on individual and Company performance] OR [through cash compensation as part of a sales incentive plan (SIP).
