Overview

The Controller reports directly to the CFO and is a member of the leadership team. The Controller will manage the month-end close process, financial reporting, audits, custodial treasury duties, subledger reconciliation, accrual accounting, internal controls, and timely financial reporting monthly for Multi-State Operations (MSO). Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Prepare consolidated monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements under GAAP accrual accounting and 471c tax accounting timely. Lead manager of financial internal controls, including monthly financial close, proper segregation of duties, and leverage of preventative systematic controls. Drives oversight of all areas of financial processes such as general accounting, chart of accounts, managerial accounting, cost accounting, inventory, fixed assets, payroll, payables, and receivables. Coordinates or prepares daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliations and roll-forwards, including bank reconciliations, General Ledger (GL) to subledger reconciliations (accounts receivable, accounts payable, inventory, fixed assets), and GAAP accrual accounting. Manages timely accrual accounting based on monthly results, including revenue recognition, incentives, accounts payable accrual, provision for income taxes, and other accruals on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis. Learns and leverages the best practices of month-end close to shorten the close process and streamline wherever possible, with short-term target of 15 calendar days or less post transition. Leads annual audit with external auditor with final issuance within 120 days of year-end, including leading annual physical inventory process at multiple wholesale and retail sites. Coordinates with CFO the preparation of support for quarterly cost accounting audits. Ensures timely collection of all accounts receivable, payment of all accounts payable, valuation of inventory and fixed assets, and reconciliation of inventory. Reconciles intercompany receivables and payables between respective legal entities within corporate structure within respective states. Prepares financial control documentation and provides insights into finance transformation and automation via Robotic Process Automation (RPA), Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen AI), and other FinTech. Oversee Ramp and Concur processes including coordination of administration, system integrations, employee compliance with expense policies, and coding of transactions. Assist with API-based ERP integrations between existing software and e-commerce systems as well as supporting implementation of new API-based ERP integrations (e.g., Distru) Manages the Financial Statement reporting software, including updates to Chart of Accounts (COA) and consistent historical reporting. Focus on streamlining accounting processes to remove inefficiencies in process design, leveraging technology and automation to “multiply time” wherever possible. Treasury & Risk Support treasury and cash flow forecast by providing timely and accurate information regarding on and off-balance sheet expected cash inflows/outflows from operating, investing, and financing activities, with input from FP&A Manager and CFO. Partners with FP&A Manager and CFO ensure timely reconciliation of cash adequate to support growth company working capital, with timely reconciliation of cash daily. Oversees preparation of annual Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance applications and renewals with lead by Accounting Manager and coordination with CFO Manages corporate debit and credit card programs and related reconciliations. Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), Business Intelligence (BI) & Taxes Partners with FP&A Manager, Retail / Wholesale Purchasing Manager(s) on working capital planning for both retail and wholesale. Partners with the FP&A Manager, CFO, development team, and leadership team to track and maintain budget to actual (accrual and cash basis) reporting for ongoing development projects. Partners with FP&A Manager and CFO in preparation of quarterly income tax estimates, annual income tax returns, investor K-1s and other tax reporting under 280E/471C Partners with FP&A Manager, CFO, and leadership team to provide valued added insights on financial trends and budget to actual variance drivers. Support pricing and product profitability analysis at wholesale and retail levels, coordinating with Commercial & Operational teams in partnership with CFO & FP&A Manager. Partners with CFO, IT, and external BI consultants/developers as needed on the design of PowerBI dashboards with underlying Sage data. Partners with FP&A Manager, CFO and IT on automating the reporting of data using technology, including Sage, Concur, Ramp, Vena, SQL/PowerBI, and other technologies. Partners with FP&A Manager, CFO and IT on development of Business Intelligence (BI) dashboards and reporting through consistent of Sage data via GL dimension coding (account, department, BU/class, location, brand), subledger transactional coding, and CapEx project coding Supervisory Responsibilities: Manages and supervises all accounting staff, including but not limited to: Accounting Manager, Staff Accountant, Accounts Receivable Specialist, and Accounts Payable Specialist. Indirect coordination with FP&A Manager as needed with direct reporting to CFO Relevant Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Accounting, Finance or other relevant field required Master’s degree / MBA valued not required. Accounting / Financial certification values not required, including CPA, CMA, CGMA, or others 6+ years of experience working in accounting or finance in a corporate environment, and/or 5+ years of experience working in public accounting or related professional services preferred, serving manufacturing clients. Experience required with monthly financial close, internal controls, budgeting, cash flow planning, financial forecasting, and financial modeling. Expert level Excel User required, with data-driven system approach preferred Moderate level User of Other Microsoft Office Products preferred, including PowerBI, Visio, PowerPoint, SharePoint, PowerApps, CoPilot, and Teams Experience with CPM solutions preferred, such as Vena, Anaplan, Adaptive Insights, Planful or similar Additional relevant software experience valued, including Tableau or similar Experience with SaaS-based ERP systems preferred, such as Sage Intacct, Process Pro, Oracle NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics 365 or similar Excellent communication skills, written and verbal Growth mindset and positive attitude Ability to work independently or with a group, including the leadership team, IT, Sales, Marketing, Procurement, and Operations. Experience working in a licensed medical marijuana business, Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG), or highly regulated industry preferred (FDA, other) At least 21 years of age and ability to pass a background check.
