About the Company We are partnered with a leading global fintech that is entering the U.S. market for the first time. With a massive international presence and deep expertise in digital payments, remittances, and financial services, the firm is now building its U.S. operations to align with regulatory expectations while maintaining the speed and innovation that have made it a global leader.
About the Role This role sits at the intersection of strategic oversight, operational execution, and regulatory interface. The leader will oversee the end‑to‑end lifecycle of financial crime investigations — from transaction monitoring and alert management through SAR/STR filings — while driving global alignment across regional hubs. Initially an individual contributor role, this position offers the opportunity to scale and lead a high‑performing team as the business expands.
The ideal candidate brings deep domain expertise in AML/FIU operations, a strong grasp of payments industry dynamics, and the ability to translate regulatory expectations into operational design and execution.
Key Responsibilities
Build and lead the FIU & Financial Crime Operations function, including alert generation, case triage, queue management, and investigation workflows.
Oversee daily AML operations, including transaction monitoring, KYC/EDD, SAR/STR processes, and sanctions escalations, ensuring compliance with global AML/CTF standards.
Develop and implement workforce management frameworks to optimize investigator capacity, forecast volumes, and allocate resources effectively during peak activity or audits.
Mentor and manage a team of financial crime and operations professionals; establish performance goals, conduct reviews, and foster a culture of analytical rigor and accountability.
Drive continuous process improvements through automation, AI model deployment, and rule‑set optimization to enhance detection accuracy and reduce false positives.
Lead complex investigations into suspicious activity, ensuring timely escalation, documentation, and reporting to regulators and law enforcement.
Act as primary liaison with regulatory bodies, law enforcement, and internal audit teams during reviews, audits, and crisis management events.
Partner cross‑functionally with product, engineering, and governance teams to ensure FIU insights inform risk assessments, KYC, and monitoring frameworks.
Report emerging trends, typologies, and risk metrics to senior leadership, contributing to enterprise‑wide financial crime strategy.
Qualifications
Bilingual proficiency in Mandarin and English.
10+ years of progressive experience in AML, FIU, or Financial Crime Operations within payments, fintech, or banking (payments experience strongly preferred).
Proven experience building or scaling FIU or AML operations functions, including investigative and workforce management oversight.
Strong knowledge of U.S. BSA/AML regulatory expectations and familiarity with global FIU frameworks (APAC, EMEA, MENA).
Demonstrated success engaging with regulators and law enforcement; prior government or investigative background (e.g., HSI, DOJ, or similar) highly desirable.
