Cost Accountant

We are looking for a detail-oriented Job Cost Accountant with experience in construction accounting, particularly with TxDOT projects. This role will focus on tracking, analyzing, and reporting job costs, preparing WIP reports, and ensuring accuracy and compliance with TxDOT and company standards. Responsibilities Maintain accurate job cost records for active and completed projects. Track budgets vs. actuals and prepare variance analysis. Allocate labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractor costs to projects. Prepare and update monthly Work in Progress (WIP) reports. Support project managers with financial performance and forecasting. Ensure compliance with TxDOT standards and assist with audits. Reconcile job cost subledger to the general ledger and support month/year-end close. Recommend process improvements for cost tracking and reporting. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. 3+ years of accounting experience in the construction industry. Direct experience with TxDOT projects strongly preferred. Proven experience with WIP reporting and job cost systems. Proficiency in construction accounting software (Viewpoint, Sage 300, etc.). Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs). Strong attention to detail, communication, and teamwork skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines. Preferred Knowledge of TxDOT billing procedures and audit standards. Experience with infrastructure or heavy civil construction projects. The provided pay range is $70,000.00/yr - $95,000.00/yr. Peyton Resource Group is an equal opportunities employer.
