Fiber Optic Technician
This role is responsible for installing, maintaining, testing, and troubleshooting fiber optic cable systems, which are critical for high-speed internet, telephone, and data transmission services. Responsibilities
Installing and splicing fiber optic cables in complex environments (enterprise networks, data centers, telecom facilities). Testing fiber optic lines for performance and signal loss using OTDRs. Identifying and troubleshooting performance issues (poor signal quality, network outages, physical damage). Managing projects and coordinating with engineers; sometimes leading a small team of junior technicians. Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent. Specialized training in fiber optic splicing, testing, and troubleshooting. Advanced equipment knowledge: OTDR, fusion splicers, power meters. Vendor-specific training (Corning, CommScope) or certifications (CFOS/T, CFOS/S). Physical Requirements
Lift up to 25 pounds. Work indoors and outdoors, climb ladders, operate in tight spaces. Travel to job sites; occasional overnight stays. Collaborate with electricians, IT teams, contractors. Perks
