The GIS Technician role will support the design, development, and automation of GIS-based solutions for civil and environmental infrastructure projects. The role involves analyzing, maintaining, and optimizing spatial data systems, automating workflows, and ensuring seamless integration between CAD, survey, and GIS platforms.
Job Description
Primary Responsibilities
Analyze and interpret survey, CAD, and spatial data to develop and maintain geospatial databases and digital models.
Develop, maintain, and publish geospatial content and applications using ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online (AGOL).
Automate geospatial workflows using Python scripting and data modeling tools to improve data processing efficiency.
Aggregate and simplify spatial datasets, including As-Built CAD, Digital Surface Models, and survey data.
Design and maintain schema-compliant geodatabases for reporting and field documentation.
Create presentation-quality maps, basemaps, and data visualizations for internal and client use.
Collaborate with engineers and project managers to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and alignment with project objectives.
Manage the transmission and quality control of GIS datasets from subconsultants and external vendors.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Knowledge of formal and informal dispute resolution methodology, procedures, techniques, mediation.
Well-developed business/personal judgment skills in resolving issues ranging from semi-routine to more complex situations.
Strong program and policy development skills to develop HR and LR programs, initiatives and policies.
Demonstrated ability to establish priorities and deliver strategic and tactical objectives.
Solid leadership, coaching, facilitation, conflict resolution and relationship management skills.
Foster teamwork and cooperation with strong change management and project management skills.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Strong presentation and facilitation skills to deliver employee relations programs.
Experience working on multi-disciplinary infrastructure or environmental projects.
Familiarity with FME, ModelBuilder, or similar data transformation tools.
Understanding of REST services and web-based GIS application frameworks.
Required Skills And Competencies
Bachelor's degree in Geographic Information Systems, Geospatial Technologies, Information Systems, or a related analytical field.
Proficiency in:
ArcGIS Pro: authoring geodatabases, building map/scene visualizations
ArcGIS Online (AGOL): web maps, dashboards, and hosted layers
Python scripting: for automating GIS tasks and data processing
Civil 3D: surface feature extraction and CAD-GIS integration
Microsoft Excel and related Office tools
Strong understanding of surveying principles, civil engineering standards, and spatial data modelling.
Experience interpreting construction plans, especially linear infrastructure (e.g., roads, pipelines).
