Estimator – Heavy Civil / Private Works
We are seeking an experienced
Estimator
to join our
Southern California Private Works Division . This role is ideal for a detail-oriented, analytical professional with a strong background in
heavy civil construction
— including
structures, earthwork, highways, underground utilities, paving, bridges, and rail infrastructure .
As an Estimator, you’ll be responsible for developing accurate and timely cost estimates for both
private and public works projects , ensuring that every bid reflects precision, value, and competitiveness.
Key Responsibilities
Review project specifications, drawings, and site conditions to determine the full scope of work.
Attend pre-bid meetings and coordinate bid preparation with the estimating team and contract administrators.
Prepare detailed quantity take-offs and comprehensive cost estimates.
Oversee and communicate
DBE
and
good-faith effort
requirements during the bid process.
Manage subcontractor and supplier outreach, proposal reviews, and cost comparisons.
Perform
risk assessments
and
contract analysis , reporting findings to senior management.
Track bid performance and manage post-bid follow-ups and contract procurement.
Draft subcontracts, purchase orders, and assist in preliminary project budgets and schedules.
Support awarded projects by estimating change orders, additional work, and cost updates.
Mentor
Junior Estimators and Interns
while fostering collaboration within the team.
Engage in business development and client relationship management activities.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in
Engineering ,
Construction Management , or equivalent technical training preferred.
3+
years of estimating experience in
Heavy Civil Construction
(structures, earthwork, underground, paving, bridges, or related infrastructure).
Strong understanding of
staging, phasing , and project sequencing.
Proficiency in
Bid2Win ,
Bluebeam ,
Agtek , and
SketchUp
required.
Familiar with
Primavera P6 ,
SureTrak , and
MS Project .
Excellent communication, organization, and analytical skills.
Valid driver’s license and ability to visit project sites as needed.

Compensation & Benefits
Salary:
$68,640 – $145,000 (commensurate with experience and qualifications)
