Overview
Contract & Grant Analyst 3 role at University of California, Riverside (UC Riverside). The Department of Physics & Astronomy seeks a Senior Analyst to assist principal investigators (PIs) with pre- and post-award administration of contracts and grants. Under the general direction of the Financial Operations Manager, the incumbent provides leadership and high-level technical support for the proposal submission process and post-award fund administration. This includes developing a broad foundation of sponsor and university policies and working with federal and non-federal sponsors such as NSF, NASA, and the Department of Energy. The role involves proposals and awards of diverse scope, analysis of data, and interpretation of complex regulations; guiding PIs in fund management. Responsibilities include coordinating multi-institutional communications to ensure timely reports, payroll requests, and grant proposals.
Responsibilities
Assist PIs with pre- and post-award administration of contracts and grants.
Provide leadership and high-level technical support for the proposal submission process and post-award fund administration.
Develop knowledge of sponsor and university policies to guide proposal and award activities.
Work with federal and non-federal sponsors (e.g., NSF, NASA, DOE) on proposals and awards of diverse scope.
Analyze data and complex regulations; provide guidance to PIs in fund management.
Coordinate communications among departments to ensure timely submission of reports, payroll requests, and grant proposals.
Maintain records and support compliance with research administration guidelines and policies.
Qualifications
Educational Requirements Degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Experience 4 - 7 years of related experience.
Minimum Requirements
Thorough understanding of research administration guidelines for Federal and non-Federal sponsors, preferably in a university environment.
Thorough knowledge of compliance requirements related to human/animal subjects in research, financial conflict of interest, biosafety, etc.
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal and reporting principles.
Ability to manage a significant volume of transactions and perform complex financial analysis and customized reporting.
Strong writing skills for drafting persuasive texts aligned with sponsor guidelines.
Ability to work with accuracy in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines; capable of independent and collaborative work.
Ability to interpret and articulate complex policies and procedures orally and in writing.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of UC policies, online campus financial systems, and UCR financial systems and research applications.
Extensive knowledge of UC Systemwide and campus Contracts and Grants policies and procedures.

Compensation and Status The full salary range for the Contract & Grant Analyst 3 is $66,500 - $118,300 annually. The expected pay scale for this position is up to $85,000 annually. Salary offers are based on education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other organizational needs. Applicants must have current work authorization. UC cannot sponsor employment visas for staff. Employment is subject to applicable University policies and/or collective bargaining agreements. On September 15, 2025, UC recognized UAW as the exclusive representative of this job code under the bargaining unit RPSP.
