Game Designer – Combat Encounters (Project Hire)
That's No Moon is an independent studio creating narrative‑driven AAA experiences. We are seeking a Game Designer to focus on combat encounters, working with experienced developers to push innovation and fidelity for next‑gen gameplay and storytelling. Responsibilities
Design, implement, and iterate on combat encounters with AI and event scripting. Prototype encounter ideas independently and communicate your vision to the team. Collaborate with producers to plan, prioritize, and scope encounter designs. Work with cross‑functional departments (art, production, audio) to ensure encounters align with narrative and design vision. Requirements & Skills
Strong interest and knowledge of the type of game We are making. Experience shipping games in Unreal Engine. Familiarity with art packages such as Maya, 3ds Max, and Adobe suite is a plus. Basic scripting skills (e.g., XML, PERL, C++) is ideal but not required. Qualities
Cinematic eye; conceptualize encounters that support narrative and communicate clearly visually to directors. Ownership of your content; responsible for shipping concepts after approval. Creativity; prototype ideas that we would never conceptualized. Proactive; pitch concepts you believe will make the game better. Generalist; learn skills that help complete vision (prototype assets, animation, VFX, mocap, audio, blueprint, etc.). Technical; comfortable with scripting and learning new software. Responsible; check‑in script and level content without breaking the build. Compensation & Benefits
