SUMMARY/OBJECTIVES It is the responsibility of the Senior Accountant I to take ownership of all tasks and challenges that they encounter in the operation of their assigned position. To follow the policies and procedures of South State Bank, NA exercising competency, courtesy, and concern for the development of the bank. Assist the Controller, Assistant Controllers and fellow Accountants with the month-end close process, account reconciliations, consolidation, financial preparation, financial statement analysis, and acquisition integrations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Ensures general ledger integrity is maintained through timely reconcilements; and proper classification to accounts and responsibility centers
Reconciles and reviews of general ledger & bank use accounts under corporate accounting responsibility
Assists in the development of automated accounting systems and process improvements
Prepare accurate general ledger entries that are accompanied by supporting documentation for bank, holding company and various subsidiaries
Prepare accurate monthly reports and corresponding journal entries for month end
Assist with completion of monthly and quarterly variance analysis
Assists with Mergers & Acquisitions (i.e. assist with GL balancing, GL mapping, application balancing, opening balance sheet accounting)
Assist with maintaining a SOX control environment
Prepare reports for financial reporting to regulatory authorities

QUALIFICATIONS, Education, and Certification Requirements
Education : Bachelors or Associates degree in Accounting preferred.
Experience : 4+ years of accounting experience with Financial Institution experience preferred
Certifications/Specific Knowledge : Proficient knowledge of accounting and reconciliation: Blackline,Microsoft Office; Workday experience a plus; report writing/technical knowledge; good interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively.
TRAINING REQUIREMENTS/CLASSES Required annual compliance training; New Employee Orientation
PHYSICAL DEMANDS Must be able to effectively access and interpret information on computer screens, documents, reports, and cash denominations, and identify customers. This position requires a large amount of time in front of a computer. This can be done sitting or standing with use of the right desk. This position may require bending and reaching.
WORK ENVIRONMENT The position is located inside an cooled and heated facility with ability to go to a break room or rest room during breaks.
Telecommuting roles no matter if hybrid or 100% full time telecommuting must have a secure home office environment that is free from background noise and distractions. They must also have a reliable private internet connection that is not supplied by use of cellular data (hot spot). Cable or fiber connections are preferred. Requirements are subject to change, as new systems and technology is delivered. Travel may be required to come to meetings as needed.
