Hold a U.S. Coast Guard Assistant Engineer license for an uninspected fishing vessel: 3000 HP on the Unimak, 3500 HP on the Arica, and 6600 HP on the North Star. Preferably 1 year of experience as an Assistant Engineer Work 12 hours/day, 7 days/week in all weather conditions Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs repeatedly Self-motivated team player Understand instructions and safety rules in English Provide 2 recent positive references from previous employers Capable of climbing and descending steep stairs and ladders Share spaces with others, including crew quarters, dining areas, and bathrooms Job Duties and Responsibilities

Manage 12-hour watch, coordinate engineering staff activities, and ensure all routine checks and equipment operations are performed correctly. Coordinate with vessel department heads to ensure safe and efficient operations at sea and in port. Recognize situations outside your responsibility and communicate effectively up the chain of command. Enforce respectful communication among engineering staff, officers, and crew. Understand vessel power systems, including switchboard management, generators, and load prioritization. Maintain auxiliary systems such as purifiers, OWS, pumps, refrigeration, hydraulics, water makers, boilers, and HVAC. Perform and log leak checks on refrigeration equipment. Start-up and shut-down engines and equipment, including emergency procedures. Troubleshoot electrical control systems, PLCs, sensors, and IO structures. Maintain regulatory documentation such as EPA logs, USCG oil record books, and maintenance logs. Ensure scheduled maintenance per manufacturer and class society recommendations. Manage personnel duties at sea and during shipyard periods. Oversee quality control of maintenance work and mentor junior engineers. Identify and mitigate risks to personnel and vessel safety. Keep engineering spaces and tools organized and compliant with environmental regulations. Adhere to Safety Management System policies and procedures. Implement vessel Lockout/Tagout procedures. Pay is based on crew share, varying per trip. Trip durations range from 13 to 24 days, depending on fishing conditions. The vessel's fishing schedule is based on quota, with relief First Assistant Engineer. The position also includes scheduled shipyard work during port periods between seasons.
