State of Oklahoma . Location: Oklahoma City and surrounding counties listed below. This position involves working with individuals who are blind or severely visually impaired to provide instruction in independent living, counseling, and rehabilitation services. Essential Functions

Provide counseling and individualized instruction to persons who are blind or severely visually impaired and their families to address challenges caused by blindness, reinforce client strengths, and build self-confidence. Assess consumers’ physical/mental condition, social and economic status, attitudes, aptitudes, job readiness, and educational background to determine disability level and potential for independent living and employment. Consult with physicians and rehabilitation personnel to obtain information for eligibility decisions. Develop and implement individualized rehabilitation/independent living plans; arrange and provide specialized services; authorize and monitor expenditures. Deliver instruction in orientation and mobility skills, self-protection, long cane and other mobility techniques, and access to transportation and education/work sites; prepare clients for dog guide programs and provide follow-up. Educate civic groups and rehabilitation professionals about the needs of the blind and visually impaired; build community resources. Collaborate with consumers, interdisciplinary teams, and rehabilitation professionals to develop a joint rehabilitation plan. Conduct assessments, determine eligibility for services, document progress, manage caseloads, and maintain records per agency standards. Provide instruction in communication, daily living skills, home management, personal management, Braille reading/writing, and related activities; support leisure and social participation. Level Descriptors / Education and Experience

Level I : Bachelor’s degree in orientation and mobility, rehabilitation teaching, or related field; one year of disability-related experience; proficiency in Uncontracted Unified English Braille (test required). Level II : Bachelor’s in orientation and mobility or rehabilitation teaching with two years of related experience; eligibility to sit for CVRT or COMS certification; proficiency in Contracted Unified English Braille (test required). Level III : Master’s degree in Rehabilitation of the Blind or Orientation and Mobility with three years of experience; certification (CVRT or COMS) required; proficiency in Contracted Unified English Braille. Level IV : Master’s degree with four years of experience; certification and mentoring responsibilities; proficiency in Contracted Unified English Braille. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of modern educational practices for Braille, daily living activities, orientation and mobility; assessment and diagnosis methods; counseling psychology; dog guide techniques; and instruction methods across levels. Ability to plan and deliver instruction, counsel clients, analyze data, and establish effective relationships with clients and families; adapt training to individuals including different age groups. Ability to mentor interns and supervise staff at higher levels; provide in-service training and support groups. Special Requirements

Certification by ACVREP or NOMC, or NCLB/NCUEB from NBCB, or two additional years of related experience; readiness to travel as required. Background check required; some positions may be safety sensitive. Eligibility, Travel, and Other
