Description
The City of Naperville’s Police Department is seeking experienced Police Officers for accelerated/lateral entry. The Board of Fire and Police Commission will create a second eligibility list of candidates who have previously been full-time sworn officers of a regular police department in any municipality, county, university or state law enforcement agency, provided they are a certified law enforcement officer through the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board (for Illinois applicants) or an equivalent out-of-state law enforcement academy. Candidates must have a minimum of 18 months as an officer to apply and at least two (2) years on the job upon date of hire. Salary information: 2-4 years as a Police Officer will be hired at the Step 3 wage rate of the FOP Contract ($102,991.64 for 2025); 5-7 years at Step 4 ($109,170.36 for 2025); 8+ years at Step 5 ($114,629.53 for 2025). The Naperville Police Department employs a staff of more than 260 employees (including 185 budgeted sworn positions). The department provides traditional patrol and investigative functions, and supports specialty assignments and collateral duties typically seen in larger departments, such as Water Rescue Team, Special Response Team, Crisis Negotiators, Field Training Officers, School Resource Officers, Traffic Officers and K-9 Officers. The department emphasizes professional and individual excellence through continuing education and training. Our officers are educated, well-trained professionals dedicated to working in partnership with our citizens to provide a safe place to live, work and conduct business. Qualified candidates must be a certified law enforcement officer by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board (for Illinois applicants) or a certified law enforcement officer through a basic law enforcement training course from a POST-certified academy with a curriculum deemed equivalent to the Illinois Law Enforcement Basic Training Course. Additionally, candidates must have a minimum of 18 months as a full-time police officer with a law enforcement agency to apply and must have a minimum of 2 years on the job by the time of hire. NOTE: Each submitted application (including resume, cover letter, and/or other pertinent documents) will be evaluated and an interview pool will be formulated accordingly. Accelerated entry applicants who are selected for consideration shall complete the entry process before an offer of employment.
