A Brief Overview

The Bariatric Surgery Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is an APRN or PA who provides advanced patient care in collaboration with the surgeons following established standards and practices. This particular position is to support the bariatric surgery program. The majority of the care will be provided in the clinic setting but may also include some inpatient post-surgical management and first assisting in the operating room. Care will be provided based on educational preparation and/or certification in the practitioner role to a specific patient population.

The APP assumes the management of patients, functioning in both an independent and collaborative role with the surgeon and other members of the care team. The APP facilitates the transition of patients between service units and provides/coordinates complex patient and family teaching.
