Ultimately, through the pursuit of individual success and achievement, the organization will benefit. Job Summary:

This position entails research in vacuum-based growth and characterization of functional thin/thick films. Applications include scintillators, phosphors and solar cells. The primary technique will be physical vapor deposition using thermal evaporation and e-beam evaporation in high vacuum. Physical vapor deposition of materials will focus on halide materials (iodides), but includes deposition of oxides, sulfides and other classes of materials. Expertise in screen printing, and doctor blading of materials is also strongly desired. The candidate should be able to characterize the basic electrical and optical properties of the deposited materials and would ideally be familiar with optical materials such as scintillators, optical phosphors and/or photovoltaic cells. The candidate should possess working knowledge and understanding of SEM, ellipsometry, and other thin film metrology techniques. Basic understanding of optical physics is also desired. Major Responsibilities:

Design and execute experiments Analyze data Make presentations Write detailed reports The candidate would work closely in a team with other engineers, scientists and technicians. Independent research is also encouraged. Excellent communication and writing skills are sought. There is need for occasional travel in this position. Desired Skills:

Must have a passion for science and learning Thorough understanding of and hands-on expertise in vacuum systems Excellent understanding of materials in general. Knowledge and understanding of scintillation materials is a plus Excellent communication and writing skills Enjoys working on multiple projects Detail-oriented Knowledge of lab and chemical safety procedures Ability to work closely as a part of a team Ability to work independently as needed Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite Qualifications:
