Job Title ECMO Specialist
Location Gainesville, FL (On-Site; Must be local and within driving distance)
Compensation and Benefits
Competitive compensation is offered, with base salary ranging from $110,000 to $120,000 per year.

Job Summary The ECMO Specialist provides bedside critical care assistance to patients receiving ECMO therapy within our customer facilities. The ECMO Specialist has a functional understanding of extracorporeal life support (ECLS) and mechanical circulatory support (MCS). The role participates in required Integration Health training for continuing education and experience. This position regularly reports to the clinical operations manager; at specific accounts an alternate IH designee/coordinator may serve as an initial contact person in the chain of command.
Job Responsibilities
Skills and Knowledge
Excellent communication skills to work with hospital employees, physicians, patients, family members and community professionals.
Has completed ECLS education modules and can demonstrate a cursory understanding of extracorporeal technology and treatments.
Clinical Duties
Provide continuous monitoring of the ECLS patient and circuit (up to a 1:3 ratio, Specialist : patient).
Monitor and adjust the ECLS blood flow and sweep gas flow per established guidelines or orders from physician/advanced practice provider.
Recommend appropriate changes to patient management based on relevant data and changing status.
Review laboratory and radiographic reports related to the ECLS patient and report irregularities to the ECLS physician/advanced practice provider.
Collaborate with the ECLS physician/advanced practice provider, ECLS Specialists and other health care professionals to coordinate tests and evaluations.
Monitor coagulation tests and adjust anticoagulant drugs per guidelines or orders.
Monitor patient intake and output and make appropriate recommendations.
Verify ECLS circuits and bedside carts are stocked and in the correct location.
Coordinate interventions with bedside staff to provide best practice care per customer guidelines.
May assist with initiation of support and decannulation with the surgical team as directed.
Perform other duties as assigned by the ECLS physician/advanced practice provider, the clinical operations manager, director of education, coordinators of Integration Health, or designee.
Documentation
Log hours worked, location, and work-related expenses using ADP and Concur; schedule travel as needed.
Document appropriately in the patient chart per hospital guidelines.
Communication
Communicate professionally with administrative teams including Scheduling & Logistics, Credentialing, and Leadership personnel.
Promote Integration Health culture and professional standards in a positive manner.
Engage in professional dialogue about ECLS and medical management with the ECLS physician/advanced practice provider without undermining their decisions or communicating negatively about the patient or staff.
Training
Develop skills related to extracorporeal life support through modules, labs, and hands-on circuit training.
Intro to multiple ECLS systems including Cardiohelp, CentriMag, Spectrum, & Rotaflow.
Bedside orientation with tenured ECLS Specialists and exposure to diverse patient demographics and strategies.
Complete competencies on ECLS equipment; demonstrate safe and conscientious practices with a preceptor before solo staffing.
Participate in knowledge assessments to tailor education and training.
Complete competencies on at least one pump system before first solo deployment and on Cardiohelp plus additional systems within 3 months.
Understand VA vs VV ECMO, cannulation strategies, and effects on native cardiac output.
Demonstrate circuit checks, alarm management, troubleshooting, and safe decannulation procedures as applicable.
Understand anticoagulation concepts, transfusion values, and ventilator relationships to ECLS.
Maintain BLS credentials and professional licenses as applicable.
Prefer candidates with both pediatric and adult ECMO experience and advanced credentials relevant to their profession.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree preferred. Associate degree with 2-3 years of related Critical Care &/or ECLS experience will be considered.
Maintain unencumbered professional license (RN, RRT, CCP). For travelers, state licenses may be required. RNs may hold a Nurse Compact license where applicable.
Preference given to those with pediatric and adult ECMO experience.
Maintain advanced credentials as applicable and AHA BLS.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to communicate effectively and perform in stressful situations.
Must be able to stand, walk, see, hear, read, speak, and write for prolonged periods without accommodations.
Must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
Must be able to move or reposition patients of any weight or size with assistance.
