The Department of Art at Idaho State University (ISU) seeks to hire a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Art to fill instructional and specialization needs in painting and drawing. The successful applicant will teach undergraduate courses in studio art as a primary responsibility, provide leadership and ongoing development of the painting and drawing studio areas, actively engage in their research/creative work, and participate in service activities. The typical teaching load is six courses per year (3/3). The search will prioritize applicants who demonstrate interdisciplinarity, curricular innovation, adaptability, and flexibility to meet high student demand for painting, drawing, and the department’s Digital Media major. Key Responsibilities
Teach innovative courses in painting and drawing, including figure drawing. Contribute to the relevant field through creative research production. Engage in meaningful university, college, and departmental service. Oversee budget, materials, and studio maintenance. Provide instruction regarding contemporary theory and interdisciplinary practice and issues in contemporary art and culture. Be involved with department service activities such as advising, student recruitment and retention, departmental exhibitions, and outreach. Minimum Qualifications
MFA in Painting or a closely related field in hand at time of hire. At least three years of college/university-level instruction. Evidence of successful teaching in painting and drawing. Evidence of high-quality creative research productivity. Preferred Qualifications
Interest in combining traditional, digital, and/or interdisciplinary approaches to painting and drawing. Potential to teach foundations and other introductory courses in Art as needed. Evidence of quality student work. Evidence of quality creative work. Evidence of ability to provide instruction conversant with contemporary art, culture and theoretical issues. Salary will be between $55,000 and $65,000 per year, commensurate with education and experience.
