The final salary for this position is dependent upon total Education and Experience. The Department of Economics, College of Arts and Sciences, is looking for a highly motivated and self-directed individual to be part of the Department. The Graduate Program & Student Advisor is the primary point of contact and support for Department of Economics graduate students at both the MA and PhD levels. This position works closely with the Chair, Department Administrator, and Graduate Director and assists with the daily programmatic and administrative support, along with retention and recruitment of the graduate program. This includes, but is not limited to, implementing administrative internal policies and procedures that support graduate student processes, including knowledge of contracts, forms, and systems used for navigating student questions and issues. The advisor assists faculty and students in submitting the necessary forms related to making progress toward their degree. The advisor assists with organizing graduate student-focused events, such as graduate seminars, department commencement, and other economics-related workshops. This position requires excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate as a member of a small team while serving a wide range of internal and external constituents. Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED; at least 7 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis. Preferred Qualifications: Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to create, compose, and edit written reports. Strong ability to multitask and manage competing priorities while meeting deadlines. Ability to analyze and solve problems independently. Ability to work both independently and as part of a small team. Experience and familiarity with graduate student policies and procedures, admission, recruitment, and contracts. Ability to perform tasks with minimal supervision. Experience and knowledge working in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), Adobe Creative Cloud, and UNM systems.
