The Department of Computer Science seeks graduate students as Teaching Associate applicants. Teaching Associates typically are responsible for providing classroom instruction. Eligibility is determined by successful TA eligibility, department eligibility, and adequate funding. The department reserves the right to choose the most qualified candidate for each position and to assign TAs to the courses that are appropriate for the department program and curriculum in any given semester. Due to staff and curriculum changes, courses offered may vary, and no guarantee of employment from semester to semester can be made. Anticipated Appointment Dates:
This position is opened until filled. If you have applied and no other positions are available, you will be notified. Fall 2025: August 18, 2025 – December 22, 2025; Spring 2026: January 15, 2026 – May 22, 2026 Hours/Units per week:
Students can work up to 20 hours per week; 1-unit is equivalent to 2.66 hours per week (40hrs x 1-unit/15-unit). The typical range for labs is between 1.3-wtus - 5.2-wtus (dependent on courses and number of section(s) assigned). The typical range for lectures is between 3-6 units (dependent on courses and number of section(s) assigned). No more than 7.5-units. Job Duties:
may include the following, but will be dependent upon the specific course to which the teaching associate will be assigned, as well as upon the specific needs of the faculty member in charge of the course: Instruct and manage the classroom Create or implement course design and assignment sequence Prepare course materials and classroom activities Respond to and evaluate student writing Assess student performance, including giving course grades Assist students outside of class during office hours and by appointment Attend TA orientation at the beginning of the semester Participate in programmatic assessment procedures Teach beginning computer science courses (as instructor of record) Maintain office hours Qualifications:
A candidate for the position of teaching associate in the Department of Computer Science must meet the following minimum qualifications: Possession of an approved baccalaureate degree. Admission to the M.S. Program in the Department of Computer Science, in good academic standing for at least 1 semester and either a classified or conditionally classified student. For graduate students with conditional classified standing in the discipline, current enrollment in at least six (6) units of graduate study in the program is required. Must meet the GPA of 3.0 or better in both Fresno State and the M.S. Program units and/or prerequisite units individually and collectively. For graduate students already matriculating in the program, a pattern of significant and satisfactory progress toward the completion of the graduate degree is required. Communication skills appropriate to the instructional setting. Proven background for the course being assigned. Ability and willingness to work with computers including common word-processing software, and computer and internet-based language teaching technology. Ability to relate well with others within the academic environment and have the ability or potential to instruct and evaluate students. Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Application Procedures:
