Sanitation Equipment Operator I: Grade 11 Base Hourly: $19.87/hr – $30.23/hr. Base Annual: $41,329.60 – $62,878.40
Sanitation Equipment Operator II: Grade 12 Base Hourly: $20.88/hr – $31.76/hr. Base Annual: $43,430.40 – $66,060.80
Sanitation Equipment Operator III: Grade 14 Base Hourly: $23.04/hr – $35.05/hr. Base Annual: $47,923.20 – $72,904.00
Job Summary
This position operates equipment in the collection and transport of solid waste and in the maintenance of city grounds and rights-of-way. An incumbent in this position may be designated “Sanitation Equipment Operator II” or “Sanitation Equipment Operator III.” Major Duties
Operates a front-end loader, garbage truck, boom truck, and other equipment to collect residential, commercial, and yard waste on an assigned route. Delivers garbage cans to customers. Performs equipment inspection and minor maintenance on assigned equipment; checks oil levels, greases joints, and checks fluid levels; cleans vehicles and equipment. Responds to and resolves customer questions and concerns. Removes debris and dead animals from streets and right-of-way. Operates a bush-hog, mowers, and other equipment to maintain ditches and rights-of-way. Operates leaf machines to collect leaves on an assigned route. Uses leaf blowers, chainsaws, weed eaters and other hand and power tools. Applies pesticide to control weeds. Mows and maintains lawns and grassy areas on city property. Performs related duties. Minimum Qualifications
18 years or older. High School Diploma, GED and/or equivalent work experience. Valid Driver’s license. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid CDL. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years. Knowledge Required by the Position
Knowledge of guidelines governing the collection and transport of solid waste. Knowledge of traffic laws. Knowledge of the geography and streets of the city. Knowledge of grounds maintenance principles. Knowledge of equipment operation and maintenance principles. Knowledge of safe work principles. Skill in problem solving. Skill in prioritizing and planning. Skill in interpersonal relations. Skill in the operation of assigned equipment. Skill in the operation of hand and power tools. The work consists of related equipment operation duties. Inclement weather and heavy traffic contribute to the complexity of the position. The purpose of this position is to operate equipment in the collection and transport of solid waste and in the maintenance of city grounds and rights-of-way. Successful performance helps ensure the efficient and effective management of solid waste and to attractive and well-maintained city properties. Physical Demands / Work Environment
The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, bending, crouching, walking, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell. The work is typically performed outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, or irritating chemicals. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc. Physical strength, ability, and mobility to perform all essential job functions with or without accommodation.
