Teacher English Language Arts/Social Studies REPLACEMENT - Foss High School Location: Foss High School, Ottawa County, WA FTE: 0.8 Hours per day: 6.0 Expected Start Date: TBD Salary Range: $73,549 – $144,248 (based on TEA agreement)

Responsibilities

Plan, organize and deliver appropriate learning activities and classroom environment that supports student growth in intellectual, emotional, physical and social realms.

Develop, plan and strategize a program of study based on students’ learning needs and meet individual student interests and abilities; employ a variety of instructional techniques and media.

Assess student growth regularly, provide progress reports and maintain accurate grading records; refer students for evaluation as needed.

Implement the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals; assist administration in implementing all district policies and rules governing student life and conduct.

Develop norms for learning, prepare lesson plans, provide differentiated instruction and scaffolding; guide the learning process toward curriculum goals.

Establish open communication lines with students, parents, colleagues and community members; conduct parent conferences and meetings.

Maintain accurate, complete and correct records; utilize formative and summative assessment data to plan and inform instruction.

Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment and facilities; supervise students in lunchroom, hallways, on school grounds and in any program held at the school.

Other Job Duties

Maintain and update knowledge and skills necessary for success in the position and improving professional competence through professional development activities and training.

Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees; supervise Para Educators and other classroom office assistance as required.

Collaborate with peers and administrators to improve student learning; support appropriate conduct and performance of job duties; adhere to Tacoma Public School Board policies.

Maintain files on latest curriculum guides; keep updated on resources and methods and make relevant changes to instructional plans and activities.

Perform related duties as assigned, on a temporary basis.

Regular, reliable, predictable attendance or physical presence is an essential job requirement and critical to the performance of the work.

Conditions Confined to work area; must secure substitute or leave only at assigned breaks; may be required to work with and defuse, if appropriate, difficult and sensitive situations and/or people; may be out in inclement weather to supervise students; may be exposed to high noise levels; may be required to lift and carry up to 20 pounds, bend, squat, stoop, kneel, crouch, walk, twist, climb and/or be mobile.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university with appropriate educational endorsement or combination of experience and training that provides the knowledge, skills and ability required to perform the work.

License: Valid Washington State teaching certificate.

Completion of all District-required trainings, as assigned.

Fingerprints and successful WSP and FBI background clearance/sexual misconduct clearance.
