What do You need to Apply? School Resource Officer (Police Officer - Law Enforcement experience required) License and Certification Qualifications: Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Basic Law Enforcement certification, pass a criminal history, psychological, and polygraph test, and a valid Georgia driver's license required. Education Qualifications: Associate's degree in related field required or obtain an Associate's Degree within three years of hire date. Experience Qualifications: Five years of law enforcement experience required. Skills Qualifications: Ability to communicate with others effectively and tactfully; ability to listen and respond to others' needs; ability to work in a school environment with young people, educators, and citizens; and ability to teach courses related to drugs, law enforcement, citizenship, criminal justice, safety, crime prevention, and law. What Will You Do? Primary Responsibilities: Responsible for assisting a school cluster consisting of several locations, helping school administration and staff to provide a safe and secure environment for students by proactively planning and responding to safety and security issues, and promoting respect and understanding of the law through education and example. 1. Assist local school administration by providing resources to ensure safety and security. a. Provide in-service training to better prepare administrators for security-related matters. b. Act as liaison between schools and law enforcement agencies, coordinating efforts and developing communication networks. c. Be a positive role model to bridge the gap between students and law enforcement to prevent crime. 2. Maintain knowledge of procedures for legal interactions with public agencies, subpoenas, interviews, and arrests. 3. Reduce juvenile delinquency by fostering positive relationships between youth and law enforcement. 4. Take law enforcement actions to protect against intruders. 5. Assist in developing safety plans and conducting emergency drills. 6. Advise on appropriate law enforcement measures for incidents. 7. Provide conferences and consultations with students, parents, and staff, and make referrals as needed. 8. Create and maintain case files on criminal acts and report child abuse or neglect. 9. Perform other duties as assigned. Physical Demands: The role requires standing, walking, climbing, running, and physical strength to respond to emergencies, including restraining suspects and lifting up to 100 pounds. Must operate a motor vehicle and meet physical standards, with accommodations available for disabilities. Seniority level
