Position Summary
Police Officers enforce University ordinances, regulations and State laws, issues citations, makes arrests, participates in the prevention, detection, and investigation of crimes, and performs other appropriate service functions for the University.
Duties
Patrols campus areas for crime prevention, parking and traffic control, and issues citations.
Investigates crimes, accidents and complaints.
Interviews witnesses, crime victims, and suspects. Testifies in criminal, civil and administrative hearings.
Evaluates and responds to emergencies by requesting fire, medical or maintenance assistance.
Prepares reports.
Transports persons and property.
Obtains and serves warrants, subpoenas and other court documents.
Recognizes and identifies safety hazards and ensures the appropriate response.
Performs crowd and traffic control at University special events.
Performs the duties and fulfills the responsibilities of a Service Officer when assigned.
Performs other specialist duties when assigned.
Ideal Candidates Will Possess The Following
Must be available to work 12 hour shifts to include nights, weekends, holidays and various overtime assignments
Possess good moral character as determined by a favorable, comprehensive, and extensive background investigation covering school and employment records, home environment, and personal traits and integrity
Honorably discharged USA Armed Forces Veteran (copy of DD-214 must be included in application packet), if apply
Must be a US Citizen at time of job offer
Possess a valid Michigan Driver's License at time of employment with a satisfactory driving record
No pending or past felony convictions
Ability to pass a criminal history record check
Meet physical standards as determined by the Universitys Medical Doctor
Communicates With Students/Faculty/Public - in order to offer assistance and information.
Operations Commander - in order to receive guidance, direction and supervision.
Supervisors - in order to receive direction and communicate information.
Multi-jurisdictional law enforcement agencies - in order to coordinate activities and exchange information.
Judicial system employees - in order to assist with prosecution.
Administrators - in order to provide and receive information.
Campus Associations - in order to coordinate activities and assist with programs.
