Primary Responsibility The adjunct faculty members of Colorado Mountain College assist students in their learning by utilizing appropriate staff resources, materials, facilities, and educational technologies that complement the teaching process. The faculty are committed to facilitating learning throughout our communities. Although teaching is the primary role, faculty engagement in scholarly endeavors and service activities also serves learners. The college seeks innovative facilitators of learning who are active in the art of teaching and passionate about extending academic opportunities to all students. Colorado Mountain College offers associate and bachelor’s degrees with a focus on positive classroom experiences and outcomes. CMC focuses on excellence in teaching and learning in diverse classroom settings and programs rather than on research. Successful candidates will demonstrate a passion for dynamic classroom experiences and strong student support. Pre-requisites For Position (Qualifications Standards) Qualified candidates must be credentialed to teach in the specific program or eligible to be credentialed. Examples of ideal qualifications include: A minimum of a master’s degree in a specific degree area for the position being recruited, or a Master’s Degree with a minimum of 18 graduate credits in a related field (e.g., for business: business, finance, management, marketing, or related fields). Minimum of one year full-time teaching experience, or the equivalent as an adjunct instructor. Higher education teaching experience preferred. An equivalent/applicable combination of education and experience to perform the duties of the position. Special skills or abilities directly applicable to the position: knowledge of pedagogy, teaching experience equivalent to two years; strong background in computers and technology; excellent organizational, office, and communication skills; willingness to learn; ability to research and analyze data; ability to work independently toward established goals and deadlines. Bilingual (English/Spanish) or conversational language abilities preferred. This position requires the employee to be a resident of the State of Colorado and perform all work duties within the state. Minimum Qualifications Essential Duties The following responsibilities align job duties with evaluation and promotion procedures: Teach classes as assigned by the designated supervisor. Prepare appropriate lesson plans for each course in accordance with approved objectives. Develop and submit course outlines and syllabi to the appropriate supervisor. Assist in developing measurable course objectives and plans. Develop a professional relationship with students and staff to encourage communication. Maintain accurate course records and complete required forms. Be available for student consultation. Assist in recruitment of students as appropriate. Assist in curriculum and instructional evaluation as agreed. Represent the college professionally in communities and the district, promoting a positive public image. Engage in professional development as required for credentialing. Supervision of the Position This position reports to the Assistant Dean of Instruction or designee in alignment with discipline deans. The position may supervise student employees. Special Conditions of Employment: Successful completion of a background check may be required. Travel and evening or weekend hours may be necessary. All safety and compliance policies must be followed. Working Conditions: This position requires primarily sedentary work with occasional walking or driving; occasional lifting up to 50 lbs; constant written and oral communication; frequent keyboard use. Work is performed using a computer and standard office equipment; driving may be required.
