Job Description

This position involves managing rodent breeding colonies and providing technical support to investigators and veterinarians. The role includes a variety of tasks related to animal care, administrative procedures, and equipment maintenance.

Responsibilities

Manage rodent breeding colonies, including identifying animals through ear tagging and ear notching. Set up breeding cages and perform tasks such as weaning animals. Collect and submit samples, including tail tips or ear punches for genotyping. Record pedigree, births, deaths, and other data electronically. Perform cross-foster rederivation. Maintain detailed records on Excel, Word, and other platforms for billing purposes. Provide weekly colony reports to investigators and veterinarians. Order animals and supplies and maintain equipment. Coordinate with husbandry personnel to ensure animal care. Assist in training researchers and maintaining equipment like isoflurane gas machines. Follow safety protocols and help implement SOPs, guidelines, and related documents. Maintain strict infection control procedures.

Essential Skills

Proficiency in animal handling and research. Knowledge of husbandry and animal husbandry practices. Experience in veterinary tech and rodent handling. Understanding of animal science, biology, and health. Skills in cleaning, sterilization, and laboratory procedures.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Bachelor's degree is preferred but experience may be considered in lieu of education.

Work Environment

The position is based in an animal research lab, offering extensive experience with high-volume animal care. The lab is part of a top-funded research university, providing a professional and collaborative environment.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $24.00/hr.
