Overview
Assistant Fencing Coach - Foil, Stanford University – Department of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation (DAPER), Stanford, California, United States. We are accepting applications for the position of Assistant Coach - Foil, Women’s and Men’s Fencing. As Stanford transitions to the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), the assistant coach is responsible for running practices, giving lessons to students, traveling with the team to NCAA competitions, evaluating prospects for athletic recruitment, and supporting administrative tasks necessary to run a Division I athletic team. We seek a coach with a strong commitment to NCAA Division I-A athletics, proven coaching success, and a commitment to women’s athletics and holistic student-athlete development. This is a one year fixed-term position.
Responsibilities
Strengthen and maintain a nationally competitive women's and men's fencing program by helping to develop a competitive strategy to compete for Conference and NCAA Championships.
Recruit on a national level by identifying student-athletes that match Stanford’s unique academic and athletic requirements.
Work effectively with staff members in compliance, student development, external affairs, facilities/operations, equipment operations, athletic training, nutrition, and sports performance.
Conduct regular practices in and out of season. Instruct the team in a variety of techniques, warmups, and drills.
Provide one on one lessons to fencers.
Travel with the team to NCAA competitions for active and productive strip coaching.
Observe fencers during practices and bouts and provide constructive feedback on their performance.
Perform armory duties as needed.
Assist with limited administrative duties including, but not limited to, travel logistics and recruitment.
Build strong relationships with fencing alumni and supporters of the program.
Participate in development and community service efforts, as appropriate and assigned.
Adhere to and enforce all Stanford, Conference, and NCAA regulations and policies.
Other duties as assigned to meet the requirements of the position.
Qualifications At least three years of fencing coaching or a combination of similar skills and backgrounds that demonstrate the competency and technical skills needed to compete at the highest level in the NCAA. Working within the DAPER Way, the candidate must embrace scholar-athleticism, demonstrate a high level of excellence, lead with courage, and have outstanding communication and collaboration skills.
Integrity and Policies This position, along with all DAPER coaches and staff, is responsible for the integrity of Stanford’s intercollegiate athletics program and for the reputation of Stanford University. This position is responsible for assuring that involvement with Athletics Department activities maintains the integrity of the University’s reputation and does not negatively impact the relationship between the University and its faculty, staff, students and alumni. Additionally, this position must comply with University policies and procedures, NCAA and ACC rules and regulations.
The expected pay range
for this position is $68,640 to $72,000 per annum.
