Police Officers are responsible for protecting life and property, preventing, deterring, and investigating crime, enforcing laws, and responding to citizen requests through community policing strategies.
NOTE: This recruitment is open to individuals who meet the definition of Police Officer Lateral or Police Officer Waiver.
Eligibility
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
21 years of age at the time of application.
United States Citizen.
Unrestricted driver’s license with no major citations in last 39 months.
AZPOST certification.
Residency in Arizona during active employment.
Lateral and Waiver Requirements
Lateral: Current Arizona P.O.S.T. Peace Officer Certification.
Waiver: (a) Completed a U.S. or U.S. Territory approved basic Police Officer training academy; (b) At least one year of post‑academy experience as a certified peace officer in the United States, U.S. Territories, within the last 3 years.
Essential Functions
Conduct patrol activities, pursue and stop offenders, issue citations, and make arrests.
Perform law‑enforcement investigations, maintain evidence, and present testimony in court.
Respond to citizen requests for assistance, administer first aid, direct traffic, and mitigate emergencies.
Pre‑Employment Requirements
Pass a post‑offer drug screen.
Pass an Audiogram Test.
Pass a Visual/Ishihara Screening Test.
Pass a AZPOST Medical Exam.
Selection Process
Background investigation.
Oral board interview.
Physical fitness assessment.
Medical exam.
Polygraph.
