Temporary Faculty Pool - Lecturer in Chinese, Hmong, Japanese, Linguistics Department Overview The Linguistics department offers a variety of courses spanning the Linguistics major, TESL/SLAT, foreign language instruction, and general education. The department also provides service courses for the Liberal Studies program.
Position Summary The successful applicant will teach courses in Chinese, Hmong, Japanese, English 5A, English 5B, English 10, or Linguistics, as well as high‑enrollment general education courses. Candidates must be qualified to teach the following: Chinese, Hmong, Japanese, Linguistics.
Instructor Responsibility Temporary faculty members are responsible for implementing university and system‑wide policies. Instructors must prepare, deliver, conduct, proctor, and grade lectures, office hours, assignments, projects, and exams. All classes must meet as scheduled throughout the semester in the mode assigned (asynchronous, synchronous, in‑person, or hybrid).
Conditional Appointment Appointments are contingent upon budget and enrollment considerations. Order of Work provisions require the assignment of courses from tenure line faculty through new lecturer appointees. Applicants must demonstrate eligibility to work in the United States. Fresno State is not a sponsoring agency for Temporary Faculty positions.
Compensation Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience within the CSU salary schedule (Class Code 2358 for Academic Year Lecturers). The range for a Temporary Faculty with a Master’s degree is $5,507–6,677 per month for full‑time (15 WTUs). Actual salary will adjust based on the number of WTUs assigned per term.
Anticipated Semester The pool is continuously open and positions fill as needed. Appointments are typically prior to the start of the academic term and may require short‑notice availability. The pool will remain in place for two academic terms; candidates wishing to remain beyond that time must reapply.
Fall 2025: August 18, 2025 – December 22, 2025
Spring 2026: January 15, 2026 – May 22, 2026
Required Qualifications Education:
A Master’s degree in one of the following: Linguistics, English, TESL, or a related field.
Experience:
Demonstrated commitment to excellence built on merit, talent, diversity, accessibility, and equal opportunity for all.
Preferred Qualifications
Commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level, evidenced by prior teaching experience and evaluations.
Successful undergraduate teaching experience.
