Field Research Student Assistant - Dutta
Position Summary: The student assistant will provide greenhouse assistance including potting, fertilizing, inoculating, and watering plants. The assistant will assist in basic field research, collecting plant samples, inoculating, labeling, placing flags, stakes, and markers. The assistant will assist with basic lab protocols, maintaining a clean laboratory space, washing glassware, preparing simple solutions, preparing media, autoclaving supplies, disposing of waste, and taking trash to the dumpster.
Responsibilities
Maintain greenhouse – care for plants: plant, weed, fertilize, water.
Assist in basic lab activities; prepare media, run general molecular standardized diagnostic assays for bacterial, fungal, and viral pathogens.
Collect plant samples, inoculate plant samples, and set up field studies including labeling and placing flags, stakes, and markers.
Basic lab maintenance: wash glassware, prepare simple solutions, prepare media, autoclave supplies, dispose of waste, keep laboratory space neat, orderly, and clean.
Qualifications
High school diploma.
Standing, lifting, enduring outside elements for extended periods of time.
Driving required.
Security access required.
