Summarized Role Description: The Dept. of Biochemistry and Primary Screening in the Pharmaceutical Oncology Research Unit-La Jolla CA is seeking a temporary full-time Research Associate Scientist with an 18-month contract. The candidate will be involved in the performance and/or development, optimization, and automation of routine cell-based assays under the direction and supervision of a Senior Scientist or Principal Scientist for the testing or evaluating of small molecule compounds. After completing experiments, analysis and publication of data is required using company-based software, plus accurate maintenance of a laboratory notebook, helping in data summary and slide presentations. In addition, the candidate will be growing and maintaining multiple cell lines, diluting compounds, making buffers and reagents, checking inventories, and ordering lab supplies. Job Requirements:
Candidate must have strong work ethic, high self-motivation, goal-oriented, and the ability to work as part of a team. Strong laboratory skills, general knowledge of sterilization, and tissue culture techniques required. Expertise in a variety of cell-based assays with hands-on skills in ELISA, WP assay/screen, and assay development and validation. Skilled in automation plate-based assay systems, liquid handling instruments, and detectors for various assay formats such as spectrophotometric, luminescence, and fluorescence. A working knowledge of data management tools is a plus. Ability to work independently and contribute to project teams in a collaborative environment. Outstanding verbal and written communication skills are essential. Highly organized, with the ability to prepare technical reports, summaries, protocols, and quantitative analyses. Ability to multi-task and independently analyze and solve problems. Education/Experience:
B.S./M.S. in Biochemistry, Cell Biology, or equivalent, and a minimum of 5-7 years of laboratory experience.
