Assistant Varsity Indoor Track Coach (816)

Sanford High School is seeking a Varsity Indoor Track Assistant Coach. The assistant coach will help develop and promote an athletic program that demonstrates integrity, citizenship, character, work ethic, and resilience. The role includes instructing students in respectful conduct toward themselves, opponents, and officials regardless of event outcomes. Must have knowledge and expertise in indoor track strategies, methods, and techniques, and provide instruction through practices and meets. Candidates should have the ability to manage all aspects of indoor track and have earned or be pursuing credentials of Maine Coaches, including CPR/First Aid and current Maine CHRC (fingerprinting). Responsibilities

Supervise student athletes for indoor track during practices and competitions. Assist the head coach with planning to ensure athletes are prepared for competition. Instruct players in the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of indoor track. Assist the head coach with off-season programs to help players enhance their abilities. Serve as a role model for students; model sportsmanlike behavior and maintain appropriate conduct toward players, officials, and spectators. Organize and direct individual and small-group practice activities as directed by the head coach. Assess player skills, monitor athletes during practice and competition, and keep the head coach informed of athletic performance. Assist with determining game strategy. Follow procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury. Collaborate with the Athletic Trainer, Head Coach, and Director of Athletics to ensure medical assistance and emergency plans are in place. Assist with distribution and collection of equipment, supplies, and uniforms. Participate in school activities such as parents’ night and awards night. Distribute and maintain eligibility forms, emergency data cards, and other related records. Model nondiscriminatory practices in all activities. Support the department’s philosophy and objectives. Administer district athletic codes. Perform other duties consistent with this position as determined by the head coach, principal, or athletic director. Qualifications

Flexible schedule; evenings and weekends required. Good communication skills. Previous experience working with high-school aged athletes preferred. Knowledge and credentials in Maine Coaches Association standards, including CPR/First Aid and CHRC (fingerprinting), or the ability to obtain them.
