Purpose of Position and Scope of Responsibility

Manage the overall operations of the residence halls. Select, train and supervise the Residence Life staff and oversee the operational functions of the residence halls. Provide coping resources to students, including personal, cultural and educational. Manage housing assignment operations. The Director of Residence Life works under the direction of the Dean of Students. Incumbents are subject to callback as required. Responsibilities

Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate Resident Directors and Resident Assistants, ensuring high standards of leadership, accountability, and student support. Develop, coordinate, and assess residence hall programming that supports student engagement, personal development, and community building. Manage maintenance requests and facility needs, including receiving and submitting work orders in a timely and efficient manner. Oversee room assignments for undergraduate and graduate housing, including managing related communications and housing records. Distribute and enforce check-out procedures, including documentation of closing charges and end-of-semester protocols. Submit requisitions and manage resources for housing-related functions and events in a timely and responsible manner. Coordinate residence hall conduct, ensuring appropriate referral and follow-up of student conduct violations to designated personnel or bodies. Collaborate in planning and executing Orientation activities for incoming new students, supporting their transition into campus life. Manage daily operational functions for all residence halls, including safety, security, supplies, and occupancy tracking. Support and implement institutional goals related to residence life, including those outlined in SACSCOC accreditation standards and the University’s Long-Range Plan. Attend and support Student Government Association (SGA) events, in collaboration with the Dean of Students, to foster student engagement and leadership. Provide leadership and oversight for Resident Directors and Resident Assistants. Facilitate the roommate agreement process, promoting conflict resolution and healthy communication among residents. Advise university leadership on housing policy and procedures, offering recommendations that reflect current best practices and evolving trends in residence life.
