Overview
The primary role of the Substitute Teacher is to assume responsibility for a classroom and perform all the tasks of the absent teacher. The exact teaching assignment is based on the needs of the department and the substitute teacher's experience and skill set. Flexibility is required.
Responsibilities
Implement the lesson plan of the absent teacher
Take attendance according to the School policy
Maintain classroom control and discipline
Ensure students adhere to school rules
Foster a safe and nurturing learning environment
Confer with students and colleagues as required
Perform other duties as assigned
In addition to the duties listed above, Francis Parker School expects the following of each employee: adheres to Francis Parker policies and procedures; works safely; maintains a positive and respectful attitude; and communicates regularly with the supervisor about any issues or concerns.
Qualifications
A degree and preferably a teaching certificate in a specific content area
Multicultural curriculum development and culturally responsive teaching experience
Previous experience working with children is preferred
Demonstrated classroom management skills
The ability to follow lesson plans accurately
Strong interpersonal and cultural competency skills
Commitment to being a positive and contributing member of the professional community
A love of children and a desire to work with all types of learners
Excellent communication and presentation skills
A proficiency in the use of technology
A desire to work in a highly collaborative environment
Be available during school hours – approximately 8:00 am – 4:00 pm
Bilingual (Mandarin/Spanish) highly desirable
