Base pay range
$18.00/hr - $20.00/hr
Position Summary Provide competitive swimming instruction in a safe environment, ensuring adherence to pool rules and regulations, and using creative techniques to engage children and families.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Utilize comprehensive knowledge of the rules and fundamentals of the sport of competitive swimming to provide instruction and coaching for various age groups in accordance with National YMCA guidelines and USA Swimming.
Consistently provide a timely schedule for assistant coaches for maximum utilization of the program.
Oversee the quality of swim team instruction and offer suggestions for improvement to the Aquatic Director.
Ensure the health and safety of all individuals in the pool, including caution regarding unsafe practices and conditions and performing rescue/first aid when necessary. Report accidents and injuries and complete incident reports.
Observe and enforce all rules and regulations of the YMCA and USA Swimming (when applicable), including monitoring swimmers in locker rooms, pool areas, other YMCA training rooms, as well as off-site facilities. Handle disciplinary actions in a timely, equitable and effective manner, according to YMCA policy. Report actions to the Aquatic Director or Branch Leadership.
Provide overall leadership and management for each swim meet, encouraging swimmer and family participation, completing all required reports and records according to established timelines and procedures, and maintaining necessary reports and statistical data as required for program management, safety and funding.
Work with the Aquatic Director to develop and manage the swim team\'s budget, including mobilizing support for assigned programs and projects through recruitment of volunteers and soliciting donations of equipment and supplies.
Work with parents to coordinate swim meet concessions, meet organization and banquet planning and other activities as needed.
Assist in the recruiting, supervision, training and evaluation of staff; oversee age group/novice coaches in goal setting and achievement evaluation for age group and novice swimmers.
Work with the Aquatic Director and Branch Leadership to develop marketing and publicity strategies for the swim team program.
Attend staff meetings, trainings, swim meets, SENECY League meetings, parent meetings, end-of-year banquet, and other scheduled functions as required.
Demonstrate and teach the character development values of caring, respect, responsibility and honesty.
Collaborate with staff, volunteers and members to foster team spirit and a family atmosphere.
Maintain good public relations with members and program participants; promote within the community and escalate major problems to the Aquatic Director or designate through the appropriate channels.
Serve as a member service ambassador, staying informed about current programs and facility schedules and being prepared to direct others to relevant services.
Qualifications Education and/or Experience
High School (GED) required
A minimum of 5 years of competitive coaching experience
