Pay rate: $26.92 - $28.34 per hour. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, and retirement benefits.

Job Summary and Purpose The Home Visitor/Teacher identifies, recruits and enrolls families for participation in the program. In classrooms, they provide support for planned activities to help children develop socially, emotionally, intellectually and physically, with the goal of achieving social competence. In home visits, they reinforce that parents are their child’s first teacher and provide developmentally appropriate activities.

Essential Duties

Work with home-based families by visiting the family home weekly and implementing developmentally appropriate, family-focused activities.

Provide children with an environment containing varied activities to promote development in line with their age and stage.

Support center-based classrooms as needed based on program needs.

In classrooms, implement the program curriculum, plan individual and group activities, and collaborate with the Co-Teacher and Family Advocate to provide information and resources to enrolled families.

Foster a learning environment that reflects the cultural and ethnic backgrounds of the children and communities served.

Consult with families and staff to identify challenges/needs and explore solutions.

Conduct ongoing observations, screenings and assessments to develop goals related to the child’s growth and development.

Identify, recruit and enroll families for participation in the Head Start Program.

Maintain children’s records; submit accurate monthly paperwork and reports on a timely basis.

Plan and participate in developmentally appropriate activities and socializations at least twice a month.

Advocate for parent involvement and connect families to nutrition, health, disability and mental health services as needed.

Other duties as required to fulfill the program mission.

Qualifications Requirements:

Be able to pass fingerprint clearance and background checks, including verification of personal references, employment and education.

Proof at the time of hire and TB clearance within 6 months prior.

Annual influenza vaccination (Aug 1 – Dec 1) and Pertussis, measles immunization.

Health screening at the time of employment.

Ability to interact with children in a busy environment and lift up to 50 lbs; frequent kneeling and bending; ability to move quickly.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or related field.

24 CD units including 6 units of infant/toddler (3+ units required at hire; remaining to total 6 units completed within 1 year of hire).

Experience:

Experience working with infants and toddlers.

Preferred Qualifications:

2 years of experience in ECE or social work.

Child Development Teacher Permit.

Knowledge of Head Start performance standards.

Growing Great Kids curriculum.

Bilingual English/Spanish (written and verbal).
