Overview The College of Architecture + Planning at the University of Utah seeks an Academic Advisor II to advise undergraduate students in the Games program. The advisor will manage an assigned caseload, develop support services, collaborate with departments and faculty to prepare students for undergraduate majors, and provide academic advising for undergraduates.

Responsibilities

Meet with undergraduate students in caseload (approximately 250-330) to provide information and guidance on academic-related issues, such as graduation requirements and exceptions, major exploration, course planning and registration, transfer credit evaluation/substitution, or advanced degree requirements.

Facilitate students' academic progress by evaluating their needs and developing appropriate educational plans. Make referrals for students who need assistance with overcoming obstacles, tutoring, career decisions, or similar needs.

Meet with Chair and/or designee (faculty leaders) in the Division of Games to communicate, share information, and collaborate to devise creative solutions to support undergraduate students’ experience, success, retention and graduation.

Engage in campus-based professional development communities related to academic advising.

Develop and present educational programs to supplement or enhance academic preparedness.

Disseminate information about changes in major requirements or University policies and adjust advising strategies accordingly.

Coordinate or participate in the advising-related portion of new/transfer student and parent orientation sessions.

Coordinate or participate in outreach activities with two-year institutions within Utah (e.g., Salt Lake Community College) as per articulation agreements.

Ensure processes and procedures are followed to facilitate entry of transfer students into college programs.

Provide assistance in recruitment activities to support prospective students navigating the admissions process.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalency (one year of education substituted for two years of related work experience).

Two years of direct academic advising experience.

Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills.

Preferences Previous academic advising experience or related student support services experience is preferred.
