JOB SUMMARY Provides the leadership, expertise and support to empower teachers and leaders with the necessary tools and knowledge to grow students as readers, writers, and thinkers to excel in an evolving digital world. Creates a culture that fosters a love of reading and writing in an ever-changing technological world. Bilingual and biliterate in targeted language may be required depending on assignment. Virtual experience may be required based on assignment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES Collaborates regularly with the school's principal, leadership team and School Improvement Team. Advocates for policies, practices and the academic success of all students as it relates to literacy. Communicates county philosophy, developments and best practices in literacy with all stakeholders. Educates teachers, leaders, parents, and community members in all facets of literacy. Attends monthly Symposiums hosted by the Office of Elementary Reading and Integrated Literacy as well as other literacy related, county-level professional development sessions. Facilitates literacy-focused collaborative planning sessions and follows-up with resources and support as necessary. Conducts coaching sessions to support teacher growth. Models best practices for classroom teachers through professional development and demonstration lessons. Provides high quality, on-site professional development for colleagues. Monitors inventory, ordering and delivery of literacy materials for each classroom. Uses data to evaluate effectiveness of curriculum and instruction at the school level. Takes actions to improve instruction based on evidence of student learning by providing targeted instruction to groups of students. Accelerates student achievement by co-teaching and providing differentiated lessons within the classroom. Based on Title I assignment: • Plans, organizes, and implements Extended Learning opportunities for identified students. • Develops and implements parent involvement events for families that support student learning. • Provides staff development for teachers to build their capacity to work with students with the greatest need for reading supports. • Attends Title I school and district meetings and events as needed. • Maintains Title I documentation for State and Federal audits and monitoring. • Helps school administration and staff to understand and practice Title I law compliance at all times. Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower. Education Master's Degree in applicable field of education from a regionally accredited college or university required; Or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities deemed sufficient to prepare the employee to successfully perform the duties of the position. Experience Three (3) years successful classroom teaching experience required. One (1) year successful teaching in Anne Arundel County Public Schools within the last two years preferred. One (1) year experience with virtual learning technology, remote instruction platforms, Learning Management Systems, and video conferencing tools, if assigned to Virtual Academy required. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with professional staff, students, and parents. Excellent leadership, verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively communicate with diverse communities and develop outreach strategies to encourage parental involvement in student learning. Ability to establish trusting relationships with colleagues. Ability to work effectively and engage diverse parents/ guardians with varied communication styles, levels of skill and experience to support their child’s educational experience. Ability to employ a variety of teaching styles to respond to the needs of diverse learners. Ability to travel to/from Maryland Sites as necessary at the expense of the employee is required for in-person appearances at various intervals throughout the duration of the school year. Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations. Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite -Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint preferred). Language Requirements Bilingual/Biliterate If assigned to bilingual program, bilingual and biliterate in targeted language required. Otherwise, bilingual and biliterate in target language native or near native preferred. Licenses and Certifications Employee must retain active licenses, certifications, and enrollment as a condition of employment. Hold or be eligible for Educator Certification: Professional Certificate appropriate to the assigned teaching content area issued by Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) required; or Hold or be eligible for Educator License: Initial Professional License (IPL) issued by Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) required; and Hold or be eligible for Reading Teacher Endorsement issued by Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) required; or Hold or be eligible for Reading Specialist Endorsement issued by Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) required.
