Environmental Scientist, Remediation
An Environmental Scientist, Remediation participates in an emergency response and environmental remediation team to proficiently conduct environmental sampling and data collection. The Environmental Scientist may also be the primary CTEH contact for interactions. In performing such duties, they will conduct and may lead data collection and investigations to identify, abate, or eliminate sources of pollutants or hazards affecting the environment or public health. They will understand and operate environmental monitoring and sampling equipment used on emergency response and environmental remediation projects. They will collect, synthesize, study, report, and act on data from measurements or observations of air, food, soil, water, and other sources. The successful candidate will have high attention to detail, collect data per CTEH procedures and site-specific work plans, contribute to project deliverables, and provide regular progress reports to the Project Manager and/or Program Director. This role is on-call for the emergency response team and may involve frequent, extended travel. It is located in the CTEH Golden, CO office and requires daily commuting to the office. Job Type:
Full Time Salary Range:
$38,500 - $59,000 (commensurate with experience) Activities / Tasks / Scope
Immediate availability for extended travel and emergency response at client’s request Maintain, calibrate and mobilize equipment appropriate for required project tasks Gather and analyze samples from various sources of potential contamination Perform monitoring and sampling activities according to prescribed methods Lead sampling teams in ER and remediation project scenarios, collecting representative soil, water and/or air samples Compile, review and summarize scientific/technical data and literature Maintain compliance with the company’s environmental, health, and safety policies and all applicable client, state, federal, and local environmental rules, policies and regulations Maintain a response bag with company-issued PPE and appropriate work clothing Perform such other duties as assigned Education, Experience, & Credentials
Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Natural Resources, or other related science Three to five years of experience in a related field or CTEH Emergency Response projects may be substituted in lieu of a degree Advanced computer skills in a Windows-based platform are required Ability to learn various software applications and perform administrative duties (timesheets, expense reports, etc.) Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision Ability to respond promptly to communications from supervision Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within a matrix reporting structure Ability to understand and follow written and verbal directions Strong verbal and written communication skills in English Ability to complete HAZWOPER certification Ability to obtain DISA and TWIC clearances Current driver’s license and ability to obtain a passport Completion of all job-specific OSHA training and compliance with OSHA requirements, including respirator use Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with high attention to detail High degree of personal initiative and responsibility for work assigned Ability to work overtime and on weekends Work Environment & Physical Demands
