Overview

The Cobb County Sheriff's Office is mandated by the Constitution of the State of Georgia and executes a broad range of services including jail operations, court security, criminal warrant execution, civil process service, mental health transports, forgery/fraud investigation, and fugitive investigation and apprehension. Responsibilities

Provide courtroom security and maintain a security presence in County courtrooms to ensure safety of court personnel and prevent disturbances or violence; assist with courtroom proceedings and documentation as required. Manage courtroom activities, enforce courtroom rules, announce the judge’s entry, swear in witnesses, maintain order, and handle interactions with counsel and juries. Conduct security checks of courthouse offices, judges’ chambers, parking lots, and other areas; perform electronic and visual security screening of jurors, spectators, and others; safeguard judges and judicial personnel. Manage prisoners; monitor inmate movements, subdue unruly inmates, resolve conflicts, and perform searches as needed. Transport inmates to/from courts, jails, detention centers, medical facilities, and other locations as directed, ensuring inmate safety during transport. Serve felony and misdemeanor warrants and civil papers; locate individuals, conduct investigations, extradite suspects when needed, and execute applicable orders. Patrol designated areas to deter crime and traffic violations; respond to calls, apprehend offenders, conduct preliminary investigations, interview victims and witnesses, gather evidence, and preserve crime scenes. Process incoming detainees, including searches for contraband, fingerprinting, and processing identification cards; monitor inmate and security systems; control movement within secured areas. Perform other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED and ability to graduate from the POST academy within 18 months; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must be a U.S. citizen, hold a valid driver’s license, be at least 21 years old, pass a background investigation, have no felony convictions, and pass polygraph, physical, psychological, and oral interview assessments. Must possess and maintain POST certification. May be required to obtain additional certifications depending on assignment. Tasks may require heavy physical effort and lifting up to 20-50 pounds, with occasional heavier elements up to 100 pounds. Sensory and Environmental Requirements

Some tasks require color perception, auditory and other sensory skills; ability to communicate orally. Work may involve exposure to adverse environmental conditions including wetness, humidity, heat/cold, fumes, smoke, noise, hazardous materials, and other hazards. Compensation and Benefits

BASE PAY: Entry Level Deputy Sheriff $54,000 per year (18-month working test period); Lateral Officer Pay reflects years of service and placement in the Step in Grade pay scale. SHIFT DIFFERENTIAL: Evening $0.50/hour; Overnight $1.00/hour; Detention center eligible $1.30/hour. EDUCATION INCENTIVE PAY: Associates $1,000 ($250 per quarter); Bachelor's $2,000 ($500 per quarter); Master's $3,000 ($750 per quarter). OTHER COMPENSATION: Take Home Vehicle Program; Hazardous Duty Pay where applicable; On-Call for Court Pay; Paid Overtime. POAB retirement benefit covered by employer.
