SAIS Economics and Math Tutor (Academic Affairs)
Join the academic support team at Johns Hopkins University to assist students in quantitative courses for the fall 2025 semester.
Responsibilities
Lead one‑on‑one and group tutoring sessions in SAIS Essentials of International Economics I & II, International Economics I & II, Statistics, Econometrics, Corporate Finance, MIEF Core courses, microeconomics, macroeconomics, and quantitative methods I, II, III.
Provide instruction and writing assistance, use a variety of teaching strategies, and support academic goal setting.
Maintain accurate records of appointments, student progress, and appointment attendance.
Attend all required training courses and workshops.
Lead training for peer tutors and conduct observations of peer tutors.
Use scheduling software to enter data and record appointment attendance.
Attend monthly staff meetings and submit weekly hours on time.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree.
Some related experience in tutoring or academic support.
Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma, as permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced understanding of basic math, algebra, pre‑calculus/calculus, and statistics.
Strong knowledge of content areas for the specified courses.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Strong interpersonal skills with diverse populations.
Expertise in the concepts covered in SAIS Essentials of International Economics I & II, International Economics I & II, Statistics, Econometrics, Corporate Finance, and MIEF Core courses.
Experience teaching or tutoring in areas such as Calculus, Pre‑calculus, Algebra, Economics, Finance, Stata, R, Python, coding, Excel, or other quantitative tools.
Benefits and Employer Information Salary range:
$18.25 – $31.89
per hour (commensurate with experience). Hybrid work schedule (Monday‑Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM; in‑person and virtual sessions).
