The Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) will prepare and enforce Chugach’s safety program for the maintenance operations support team of skilled and semi-skilled tradespeople at Naval Air Facility, El Centro, CA. The contract covers general service work, general maintenance, base support vehicles and equipment, environmental, and other base services. The SSHO implements and administers Chugach's safety program and the Government-accepted Accident Prevention Plan. This position aims to establish a culture of safety throughout the contractual organization. Work Model: Onsite/Office Based Responsibilities
Responsible for risk mitigation of all hazards identified in Chugach’s Safety and Health Program in accordance with the Accident Prevention Plan; shall be on-site at all times when work presenting hazards is being performed. Act as primary point of contact for all safety-related issues. Ensure a high level of internal and external customer service; investigate and correct safety-related problems and risks. Develop, implement, and maintain safety practices for assigned and related departments consistent with Chugach’s safety culture. Establish programs for safety to align operational functions with forward-looking safety procedures, work instructions, procedures, and check sheets; maintain internal safety programs. Develop and present company and contract information at all-hands meetings. Ensure departmental reporting and data calls are completed in a timely, complete, and accurate manner. Foster teamwork between departments on safety-related issues. Provide clear and decisive written and oral communication. Establish and maintain good working relationships with Government and internal customers. Work professionally and collaboratively with all contract and company personnel. Maintain a high degree of professionalism across all levels of the organization. Operate Government and Chugach-owned motor vehicles. Adhere to established company safety SOPs and policies. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications
Five years of satisfactory experience in preparing and enforcing safety programs on contracts of similar size and complexity. If possessing a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), five years of relevant experience within the last three years. Completed OSHA 30-hour construction safety class or equivalent. Must maintain competency through 24 hours of formal safety- and health-related coursework over four years. Meets EM 385-1-1 Section 1 requirements. Proficiency in MS Office Suite at an intermediate level. Knowledge of generally accepted standards of workmanship in maintenance of facilities and Government contracting terminologies. Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English. Ability to be on site during Government hours and respond on-site within two hours after request outside regular hours. Knowledge of equipment maintenance. Must have and maintain a valid Real ID driver's license with acceptable driving record. Must be able to pass pre-employment background check and drug screen.
