Lead Geologist

WSP USA is seeking a Lead Geologist for our Greensboro, North Carolina office, involved in projects with our Earth & Environment Team. The role involves planning, directing, and overseeing environmental consulting services for public and private clients. The ideal candidate will possess strong program management and communication skills, engaging with clients, agencies, the public, and team members. The position emphasizes contributions in strategy and project/client management for hydrogeological characterization, environmental assessments, and compliance.
Responsibilities
Lead and mentor environmental scientists and engineers in technical assignments.
Ensure compliance with environmental laws, standards, and contract requirements through technical review and oversight.
Manage projects both technically and administratively.
Develop and execute project scopes, schedules, and budgets within cross-functional teams.
Prepare technical reports and presentations regarding research findings and environmental recommendations.
Drive business development and marketing strategies to attract new clients.
Represent WSP professionally with clients, regulators, and subcontractors.
Travel primarily within the Southeast to project sites.
Ensure adherence to health and safety standards.
Perform other duties as needed.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, Geosciences, or related field.
7-10 years of relevant experience.
Ability to develop client relationships in public or private sectors.
Experience in project management and business development.
Knowledge of Federal and State environmental regulations (NC, SC, VA).
Strong interpersonal and communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
Must pass background checks, hold a valid driver’s license, and have a clean driving record.
Demonstrated leadership, attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization skills.
Proficiency in technical writing, office software, and analytical tools.
Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to company policies.
Willingness to work flexible schedules and travel as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Geology or related field.
Professional certification such as PG.
OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER training.
Basic First Aid and CPR certification.
